Diversity

Davidson's commitment to diversity and inclusivity is grounded in the college's Statement of Purpose and extends to the entire Davidson community. The college seeks to foster mutual respect and understanding among and for all people of different cultures, ethnicities, races, religions, sexual orientations, genders, ages, national origins, socio-economic backgrounds, and physical abilities.

We strive to enrich our community by attracting, supporting, and retaining students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds and perspectives who bring a variety of talents, passions, and worldviews. Davidson adheres to strict non-discrimination policies and is a place where those who live, work, and study see difference as an opportunity to learn about themselves, each other, and the larger world. The college is committed to fostering humane instincts and disciplined and creative minds for lives of leadership and service after Davidson.

Diversity in the Curriculum

Students have opportunities to explore the complexities of an increasingly interconnected world through academic coursework. Each student must fulfill a cultural diversity requirement by taking a course designated by the faculty as having a significant component or focus directed at the cultural experience of a group differing from that of the dominant culture of the United States or Europe. The foreign-language requirement ensures students reach an acceptable intermediate proficiency in a second language. Learn more about all academic programs

Multicultural Life

Students closely connect to their own cultural and ethnic backgrounds, as well as to the backgrounds of the students around them, through a vast array of cultural clubs, organizations, and leadership opportunities. Opened in 2010, Davidson's Multicultural House provides a space where students of all backgrounds meet and engage in various learning opportunities presented by faculty, staff, and student groups. Religious Life

Davidson encourages students to acknowledge and discuss the faith traditions and spiritual practices of its diverse student body. The college, through student interest groups and Davidson-sponsored programmatic efforts, supports students of all faith and religious traditions and those without specific traditions.

Gender & Sexuality

Through programmatic resources and powerful student organizations, Davidson promotes a safe, open environment for all of its students regardless of race, gender, disability, or sexual orientation. Learn more
