Premedical Director and Premedical Advisory Committee

The premedical director, who is the adjunct advisor for all students who have an interest in medicine, assists in matters related to admission to medical school. Students should make an appointment with the premedical director at their earliest convenience to begin planning the premedical component of their education. The premedical director maintains a reading room which houses a wealth of information on medical school. In addition, Dr. Putnam has prepared the

Davidson College Premedical Handbook

to assist Davidson students who want to pursue a career in medicine. The premedical advisory committee, which is chaired by the director, evaluates students, typically during the spring of the junior year. The fall evaluation is available only by permission. The Premedical Advisory Committee evaluation is based on several factors, including grades, recommendations from Davidson professors, a premedical interview, and service to the community. The premedical director prepares a summary of the committee evaluation and sends it to the medical school at the request of the student. This carefully prepared summary is typically sent at the time the medical school requests secondary information.
