The Davidson Wildcat's Men's Lacrosse Team earned its second win this season against the University of North Carolina - Charlotte Forty-Niners on another cold and rainy Saturday afternoon in Charlotte, NC. The game started quickly for the Wildcats, with a goal by sophomore midfielder Ryan Robertson (VA); at the end of the first quarter, Davidson led by a score of 5-1, with first quarter goals by senior captain Garen Riedel (MA), first-year attackman Andrew Guard (IL), and first-year attackman Alex Gregor (NC). The defense was strong in the first quarter, with strong play by junior defenseman Braxton Winston (NY), who made his intercollegiate lacrosse debut against Charlotte. For the Wildcats, the game slowed down offensively, and Charlotte was able to score three goals for a halftime score of 6-3. Charlotte score first in the third quarter, but attackman Alex Gregor responded with the second of his goals. Sophomore midfielder Morgan Koukopoulos (NC) scored his first goal of the season in the third quarter after Charlotte scored two more goals, resulting in a final third quarter score of 9-6. Davidson started the fourth quarter with a three-minute illegal stick penalty, but the defense of senior captain Geoff Fehling (PA), junior John Hoke (VA), senior Bron Tennis (PA), senior Jason Hult (MA), midfielder Morgan Koukopoulos (NC), and especially sophomore goalie Karl Schmnidt (NC) stepped up to the challenge, shutting out Charlotte during the three minute penalty. Charlotte responded with two more goals in the fourth quarter, and the Wildcat offense scored four more goals for a final score of 13-8.
Congratulations go to the Wildcats who made their debut with fine play in the second game of the season: first-year defenseman Mike Beaucaire (IL), junior defenseman Braxton Winston, first-year midfielder Story Jenks (VT), and sophomore midfielder Jay Buckingham (MD).
