The Davidson Wildcats Men's Lacrosse Team won their second game against conference rivals the Wake Forest Demon Deacons by a score of 12-7. Davidson scored first, but the game was highly contested until the waning moments of the fourth quarter. At the half, Davidson led Wake 6-4, but in the middle of the third quarter, with Davidson down one man with a non-releasable penalty, Wake was able to score two goals and take the lead 7-6. The Wildcats, however, fought back, establishing a 10-7 lead before the lights went out 8 minutes into the fourth -- due to an administrative miscalculation -- but upon resumption of the game, Davidson finished strong with two more goals.

The team was led in scoring by our first-year attack with 4 goals by Jamie Butler (IN) and 2 goals by Nick Tapert (NY). Senior attack Grant Cooper had a number of assists. Midfield play improved, especially on defense, as did ball movement and scoring by our team leaders; Co-Captain sophomore Garen Riedel (MA) scored 3 goals, Co-Captain junior Evans McGowan (DE) scored 1 goal. In the third quarter, the team was energized by the tremendous hustle and scoring by our "third middies" -- junior Richard Connolly (MA) and junior Dan Kriebel (NY) each had a goal in the third, with line support from first year midfielder Richard Rowley (NY) and sophomore Wiley Becker (FL). As always, our defense was excellent, with great play from junior Goalie Ben Ralston (CO), and starting defensemen sophomore Geoff Fehling (PA), sophomore Jason Hult (MA), and first-year John Hoke (WV), and sophomore Dan Gyves (NC) at long-stick midfield.

Davidson's next action is a scrimmage against Division II Pfeiffer University on Valentine's Day, 2/14. Davidson Men's Lacrosse is a member of the Southeastern Lacrosse Conference, USLIA. Davidson's head coach is Fuji Lozada, and team captains are Evans McGowan, Garen Ridel, and Geoff Fehling.
