  Current Research Interests:

  My research is focused on understanding the molecular mechanisms involved in sex determination in Chlamydomonas. iso1, a mutant strain of Chlamydomonas , has an unusual phenotype; genetically it is a mating-type minus cell, but it produces gametes of both mating-types. The iso1 gene is not linked to the sex chromosome and with student assistance, we will clone and sequence the iso1 gene

  The second focus of my research is to determine when during embryogenesis the proteins that are known to be important in Ca²⁺ homeostasis are expressed in chicken development. I use monoclonal antibodies and immunohistochemical methods for this work.

  Finally, I have been conducting research on improved teaching methods and teaching laboratory exercises. I have focused my efforts on Introductory Biology and Molecular Biology.
