Instructional Objectives

Upon completion of this lesson, students should be able to:

1.) Respond reflectively to non-print text (music) in a way that offers an audience an awareness of how personal and cultural influences affect an understanding of a text. (1.02).
2.) Demonstrate the ability to read and listen to explanatory texts by demonstrating comprehension of main ideas (2.01).
3.) Demonstrate an understanding of the literary elements (plot, setting, characters) in TWM by taking a quiz (5.01).

30 min. Guided practice: Listening to and Reading TWM; Discussion 2.01 Put on TWM CD. Have students follow along in book. Stop and discuss—taking NOTES—after every section. Have students record another quote and explain. Give a couple minutes to look through folder to review notes/handouts before quiz. *Text pgs. 55-68

Check for Understanding: Music Presentation Play each student selection. Have students right down the song’s message about our culture. What’s the plot? Why would Morrie like it?
