Abstract

Scholars of have ignored the collaboration that went into the publication of little magazines, focusing on one or two powerful editors rather than the contributors who filled their pages. This paper retells the history of two short-lived avant-garde magazines, Secession and Broom, as the story of a group of literary friends, rather than that of one powerful editor, Matthew Josephson.
