J. Gill Holland  taught at Davidson College from 1961 to 1963 and from 1967 through spring 2004, when he retired.  In the sixties he also taught at Duke University, the University of Houston, and the University of Redlands. He has studied Mandarin and classical Chinese at Stanford University (three summers) and in Taiwan and Beijing, where he taught on three sabbatical leaves (1973-74, spring 1989, and fall 1995). In addition to articles on English and American literature of the nineteenth- and twentieth-centuries, he has published a book of translations of classical Chinese poetry and two books of his own poems and also articles and reviews in Norwegian literature and art. He is currently working on the unpublished journals of Edvard Munch.
