Hall, Linda: [Lolita] One of Lolita's companions at the Beardsley School for Girls. She is the school tennis champion; Humbert suspects she is a 'true nymphet,' but Lolita never allows him to have any contact with her.

Hamilton, Mary Rose: [Lolita] "Dark" friend of Lolita.

Harry Edgar: [Lolita] Edgar Allan Poe.

Haze, Mrs. Charlotte: [Lolita] The mother of Lolita. She is a typical bourgeois woman in her middle thirties; she is versed in soulless, vacuous parlour talk and is a thrall to the rules of etiquette and women's book club "refinement." She attempts and fails to speak French, is highly critical of Lolita's "inproperness," and is attracted to the "exotic" European Humbert who is a lodger in her house.

Haze, Dolores: [Lolita] See Lolita.

Haze, Mr. Harold: [Lolita] Charlotte's previous husband and real father of Dolores.

Hells Canyon: [Lolita] Formed by the Snake River on the Idaho-Oregon boundary, Hells Canyon is the deepest gorge in North America. The total length of the canyon stretches over 125 miles; its depth reaches a maximum of 7,900 feet. Hells Canyon and the area surrounding was declared a national recreational area in 1975.

Herr Doktor Humbert: [Lolita] Humbert refers to himself as he ponders creating a "healthy" girlhood for Lolita.

Holigan, Mrs.: [Lolita] A maid whose services Humbert inherits from the previous tenants at his residence on Thayer St. in Beardsley. She is inobservant enough to miss the signs of Humbert's ongoing affair with Lolita.

Holmes, Charlie: [Lolita] The sullen 13 year old son of Camp Q's mistress with whom Barbara Burke, Phyllis Chatfield, and Dolores have intercourse with by turns behind a bush while carrying a boat to the nearby lakes. Humbert finds out in his final return to Ramsdale that he was killed some time later in Korea.

Holmes, Ms.: [Lolita] The "camp mistress" of Camp Q.

Hotel Mirana: [Lolita] A hotel on the French Riviera. Humbert meets Annabel Leigh there.

Horner, Sally: [Lolita] An eleven-year-old alleged molestation victim of Frank Lasalle, a fifty-year-old mechanic.

Hourglass Lake: [Lolita] The lake where Humbert and Charlotte go to swim and sunbathe while Lolita is away at camp. It is also where Humbert first learns of Charlotte's plans for sending Lolita to boarding school, and where he first contemplates killing Charolette.

Edgar, H. Humbert, Dr.: [Lolita] Name Humbert gives The Enchanted Hunters.

Humbert Humbert: [Lolita] Also H.H., Humberg, Humbug, Herbert, Herr Doktor Humbert, Dr. Edgar H. Humbert, Jean-Jacques Humbert. Author of Lolita or the Confession of a White Widowed Male, died in legal custody of a broken heart on November 16,1952, while awaiting trial for a crime reported upon in the daily papers for September 1952 (killing Clare Quilty). Born in 1910, in Paris. Of Swiss, French, and Austrian ancestry. Has a theory of nymphetdoom (or nymphetdom). Likes to create false dreams to deceive psychologists; highly critical of psycho-analysis.

Hunter Road: [Lolita] The home (last one at the end of the street) of Dolores and Richard Schiller in which Humbert finally confronts the runaway Lo and gets from her the name of the villain who seduced her away from him in Elphinstone: Clare Quilty.
