Berlin on the Web

From the capital of Prussia, through the heart of the Cold War, to the present day capital of Germany, Berlin maintains a special place in the history of Germany.  Germany's largest city and cultural center is also Europe's largest industrial center.

There is a large collection of universities, museums, opera houses and theaters, as well as an expansive number of parks.  The Grunewald Forest occupies a large section of Berlin and is a popular place of escape for many Berliners.

Berlin is home to Germany's federal government.  Unlike Washington D.C., however, the city is more than just government services.  The textile, machine part, food processing, clothing, and pharmaceutical industries all hold a major presence in the city.

Because of its turbulent political history in the 20th Century, Berlin is not the home to many large corporations despite the city's abundance of industry.  Some companies that do hold large operations in the city are Siemens AG, EHG Elektroholding GmbH, and Bayer AG.  One company that does have its headquarters in Berlin is Deutsche Bahn AG
