Mecklenburg-Vorpommern on the Web

With only 1.8 million people, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is the most thinly populated Bundesland in Germany.  It has more coastline than any other federal state, as well as more lakes and a large amount of forest regions.  Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's natural beauty makes it a popular tourist destination for people living in northern Germany.

The vast amount of coastline makes Mecklenburg-Vorpommern very much a maritime region.  The fishing industry holds a strong presence here and greatly overshadows the industrialization of the area.  The only industrial area to speak of is the city of Neubrandenburg, where there is some automobile production. 

The capital city of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is Schwerin, located in the western half of the federal state.  The largest port in the region is Rostock
