Convening meeting Sept 07
Planning meeting Sept 08
ad hoc planning meeting @ AATG/ACTFL Nov 08
The planning group, convened by Peter Höyng, recognized a strong interest in creating a network among the scholars and teachers of German studies in the Southeast region in the in order to facilitate communication. Participants at a September 2007 meeting agreed upon the desire for having a lower-profile, grass-roots workshop-approach instead of a big “standard” conference.
On September 12-13, 2008 the original planning group held the second meeting in Atlanta, structured as a tri-partite workshop which will become the blue-print for an annual IGSSE workshop:
• three presentations with discussion of ongoing research projects by participants;
• discussion of institutional and professional concerns;
• a closing discussion (during lunch) of an article or essay of common interest.
On 22 Nov 2008 Peter Höyng, Dick Langston, and Scott Denham met at AATG in the context during the panel discussion on "Regional Networks." They planned the 11-12 Sept 2009 IGSSE meeting and discussed matters of policy, invitations, funding, and future directions.
