(There are a few copies in the college bookstore if you need to get your books there for some reason.) Until your text comes, use the downloadable sections for the first few chapters, also on the aufgehts.com website.

 

Organization: This course meets five times a week, MWF with your instructor, and TR with your AT. AT sessions are drill and conversation sessions with an Assistant Teacher. You will prepare before each class with the instructor by first doing the interactive program, then the textbook, then, when youÕve done those two things, go over grammar and make vocabulary cards. There are 6 units for each semester; weÕll cover each in about two weeks. For AT sessions, prepare by reviewing the current section. ATs will emphasize repetition of sounds and patterns, model conversations, go over scenarios from the text, and the like.

 

Attendance policy: No absences. In case of illness, crisis, death in the family, or other excusable absences, let me know before class. Unexcused absences cost a letter grade each for the semester. For sports, field trips, honor council obligations, or other qualified (so-called excused) potential absences I may choose to reschedule the class for that day, probably in the late evening or early morning. Please let me know right away about any qualified absences. Note that your reporting on any absences falls under the guidelines of the honor code. Pledge all your work in this course by signing or typing your name.

 

Grades: Three parts: (1) class participation, homework everyday, 30%; (2) 6 tests 8% each (48%); (3) final exam 22% (1/2 oral, 1/2 written).
