second essay assignment (due Tue, Feb 19 5pm via email to all): In an analytical essay, explore the ways in which Zadie Smith used E. M. Forster’s novel Howards End in shaping her own, On Beauty, and consider the reasons why she might have done so.
for Friday 15 Feb: send an email to all by Thursday evening 10pm with a topic heading (from the board on the right in class Wed 13 Feb [family, hero, hospitality, character, etc.]) and in the mail a passage of two and a few lines about how the passage shows something of the topic you're interested in; we'll use these are starting points for discussion on Friday.
RSC: send a review of at least one event to the whole group via email by Sunday evening 17 Feb 10pm; events here and symposium here
