Professor Tilburg teaches modern European
history, particularly the history of France from the Revolution to World War
I. Her courses explore questions of modern European culture and society such
as the history of the body, the rise of modern urban and consumer culture,
modernism, and gender history.
Her research interests focus on the French author Colette and the
secularization of education in the French Third Republic.
