Professor Edmondson specializes in modern European and Russian history, and has published works on Austria in the twentieth century, including The Heimwehr and Austrian Politics, 1918-1936 (University of Georgia Press, 1978) and articles in the following collections: the Austrian History Yearbook (1972), The Austrian Socialist Experiment: Social Democracy and Austro-marxism, 1918-1934 (Westview, 1985), and the Handbuch des politischen Systems Oesterreichs: Erste Republik, 1918-1933 (Manz, 1995). He collaborated with three other scholars in the writing of Debating the Origins of the Cold War : American and Russian Perspectives (Rowman & Littlefield, 2002). He has published reviews in several journals and has six entries in the American National Biography (Oxford University Press, 1999). Professor Edmondson is the winner of the 2001 Thomas Jefferson Award.
