Professor Partin specialized in eighteenth- and nineteenth-century Europe, the French Revolution, and Napoleon. His research included work on a translation of selected portions of Napoleon's correspondence. He is the author of Waldeck-Rousseau, Combes, and the Church: The Politics of Anticlericalism, 1899-1905 (Duke University Press, 1969).  Dr. Partin retired in 2002.
