AlgFields

Welcome to the home page for AlgFields, a system of Maple and Mathematica routines for calculating with low-dimensional number fields and finite fields. These packages, developed with support from the National Science Foundation, the Associated Colleges of the South, and Davidson College, are distributed freely under the GNU Public License. The packages are designed for optional use with Exploratory Galois Theory, an undergraduate text in Galois theory from Cambridge University Press.

AlgFields was featured in an MAA minicourse, Teaching a Galois theory for undergraduates, at the 2008 Joint Mathematics Meetings in San Diego and the 2005 Joint Mathematics Meetings in Atlanta.

Please email comments or concerns about the packages to the author, John Swallow.
