TeachingI enjoy teaching in the Department of Mathematics and in Davidson's Humanities Program. Collaboration with undergraduates has included Nat Thiem, summer student from 1998 and former post-doc at Stanford, who is an assistant professor at Colorado; Andy Schultz '02, now a post-doc at Illinois after finishing his Ph.D. at Stanford; and Frank Chemotti '05. This year I am working with Adam Topaz '08.

Exposition I have developed a minicourse on teaching an undergraduate Galois theory, with dissemination at mathematical conferences supported by the NSF through 2009. This year I am speaking at several MAA sections on topics related to Galois theory. I also enjoy opportunities to write essays, expository articles, book reviews, and, time permitting, texts.

Research My research concerns the patterns which appear when one considers the roots of polynomials with integer coefficients. My interests range from Galois embedding problems to the Galois module structure of pth power classes and more general Galois module structure of Milnor K-theory.
