Guidelines for Student Web Pages
When creating web pages for this class, please make sure that you follow the guidelines below:
- At the top of every page that you create, include the phrase: "This page is part of a class assignment at Davidson College." (see the top of this page as an example).
- In the phrase above, it is a good idea to create a link from the words "Davidson College" to Davidson's main web site (www.davidson.edu)
- At the bottom of each page, you need to include three things (see the bottom of this page as an example):
- Your contact information
- The date that the site was created, and the date that the site was last updated.
- A link to the class homepage
- A link to the college homepage
- Make sure that the text for your page is readable. The color of the text should be black, and the background should be a light color.
- Choose the simple over the complex.
- Visitors to your page (including the person grading it) are most interested in the content of the page. Fancy graphics or colors can distract from that content.
- In general, avoid moving objects like dancing bears or complex backgrounds.
- You can include more complicated visual or audio elements in your page, as long as those elements help the reader understand the content of your page.
- All figures must have legends identifying their source(s), including hypertext links where appropriate. Because of copyright laws, you must seek permission to use images that are not yours. For more details, see a guide written by Kristen Eshleman of the Center for Instructional Technology.
- When including a table in your web page, make sure that you explain clearly the content of the table and the source(s) of that information.
