The Department combines classroom instruction, research experience, and service
learning to provide students a full-range view of the issues addressed by sociologists. Students participate in a variety of "hands-on" activities, including:
  • designing and conducting survey research,

  • working in the field in correctional facilities,

  • interviewing research subjects and analyzing their responses, and

  • travelling abroad to learn about other culture.

After graduation, our majors move on to similarly diverse pursuits, including graduate study, professional school, public health and policy research, and social service work in an array of settings both here and abroad.
