Post-Masters Certificate, Art Therapy
I manage the Visual Resources Center, collecting quality visual art derivatives used for teaching and learning. I also work with the Van Every Smith Collection staff to provide campus-wide digital access to our permanent art collection within our content delivery software (MDID3).
My assignment is tied to art and art history, collection management, database administration, AV projection, digital photography, and classroom learning. Or, as I prefer to think of it: I get to look at works of art from around the world all day. I train and oversee work-study students who help greatly in this work while building professional skills, such as metadata description of cultural objects (useful in the art and museum world), or basic photo editing in Photoshop.
I worked in the digital image management field for 10 years prior to coming to Davidson in 2012, and I continue to be active in professional organizations. Presently I am serving as secretary-treasurer for the Southeast Chapter of Visual Resources Association. I am also interested in health psychology, in researching the possibility of using Pinterest as a digital community building/learning tool within the World Wide Web, and I hold a certificate in Art Therapy.
