Vice-President for College Relations
The office of College Relations has a dual mission: (1) to communicate with external constituencies (alumni, parents, friends, business and industry) and the college community the goals, objectives, news, and events of Davidson and (2) to involve these same constituencies in the life of Davidson College. Included within the auspices of College Relations are the offices of Alumni Relations, College Relations, Advancement Services, Development, Davidson Athletic Foundation, and WDAV, the college radio station. The Davidson College Archives has the administrative files of the office of Alumni Relations (RG 5/4.1). This office is responsible for overseeing activities related to alumni programs including Homecoming, reunions, publications, and alumni chapter events. The records for Alumni Relations date from the 1930s to the present, but the majority of files date from 1958 to the present. Subjects or activities documented in the collection include Reunions (1938-present), travel programs (1974-1994), class gifts, the Living Endowment (1958-1971), leadership programs and continuing education/Alumni College programs. Davidson College's Special Events office (RG 5/3.2a) is responsible for organizing dinners, receptions, and parties related to College Relations activities. The Archives has the administrative files of this office. The files consist primarily of printed materials, especially invitations and programs. Events documented include Homecoming, Parent's Weekend, Ne Ultra Society dinners, the 20th anniversary of women at Davidson, the opening of the Visual Arts Center, Board of Visitors meetings, the Speas Colloquium, and the Bernard Society of Mathematics programs. The Archives also has the administrative files of "The Campaign for Davidson - A Quiet Resolve," (RG 5/5.1) a major fund raising program for Davidson College undertaken from 1989-1995. The purpose of the Campaign was to raise $150,000,000 to be used for endowed professorships, scholarships, construction of the Visual Arts Center, Baker Sports Complex and new dormitories, as well as supporting academic programs and increasing the college's endowment fund. The records include feasibility studies and reports on previous campaigns, particularly the 1987 Sesquicentennial Campaign.
