The collections selected for this portion of the project come from the
records of the Trustees and President's Office and reflect the activities
and expectations of those responsible for administering the college.
They include advertisements, examples of faculty inaugural addresses,
a report from the College Physician, a report from the Trustees
to the Presbyteries supporting the college, treasurer's records
and tuition and scholarship receipts. Except for the
inaugural addresses, these records were created in the course of
the daily work of the college. The addresses were intended not only
for the students but were published and distributed to add to the
prestige of the college. Daniel Harvey Hill's address on discipline
received national attention and was considered a standard on the
subject.
