About the Project

The purpose of the Beyond Books and Buildings: History of Higher Education project is to provide access to original documents that tell about the history of colleges and universities in North Carolina. The Davidson College Digital Project site contains examples of college publications, speeches, reports, student letters, minutes, and photographs. These records provide information about the college from the initial planning in 1835 to student publications in the 1870s and some photographs from the early twentieth century. More collections will be added to the site as time permits.

The site also contains links to exhibits about Davidson College history and access to the Archives database for archival, manuscript, photograph and artifact collections.

The funding for this project is from federal LSTA monies made possible through a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, administered by the State Library of North Carolina, a division of the North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources.

Grant and College staff assisting with the project include Nancy Andersen, Jan Blodgett, Julie Carter, Garyth Evans, Anne Stack, Nikki Turner and David Wheeler.
