Little Library Laptops
FAQs
The E.H. Little Library has several laptops that students, faculty, and staff can checkout for use in the building.

- Can anyone check out a laptop?
- No, only Davidson students (not summer programs), faculty, and staff.
- Do I need to do anything other than check it out?
- Yes, you must sign a laptop liability form that includes all equipment checked out.
- If the worst happens and I have to replace the laptop, what is the cost?
- Minimum $2000.00.
- Can I print using a laptop?
- Yes. Laptops print to the public printers on the main floor.
- If I want network connection, do I need a network cable?
- No, wireless is available throughout the Library and the laptop has wireless capability. However, we do have network cords if you choose to use one (or if for some reason the wireless network is down).
- Will I need a power cord?
- You may request one if you wish, but it is not a necessity. A fresh battery will be placed in the laptop when you check it out (2 hour battery life). If you use a power cord, please be careful not to make the cord a tripping hazard for others.
- Are headphones available?
- Yes, you may check them out at the circulation desk.
- Is there a CD-Rom drive?
- Yes, and it will also play DVDs, but if you prefer a floppy drive, that will be changed out for you.
- May I check out a mouse?
- No, we do not have external mice available.
- May I check out a Mac?
- No we only have Windows PCs.
- How long may I keep the laptop?
- Laptops are checked out for 2 hours.
- May I renew the laptop?
- Yes, if no one else has been waiting for one.
- Where may I use the laptop?
- You may take it anywhere in the Library. You must remain in the building with it.
- May I save my work to the laptop?
- No. When the machine is turned off, all data is lost. You must save your work elsewhere (network drive, flash drive, etc).
- May I turn the laptop off while I have it?
- Only if you have your data saved elsewhere. All data will be lost if turned off.
- May I have a drink while I have the laptop?
- No. Even though drinks with lids are allowed in the Library, you should never have one near a laptop (and no eating is always a library policy).
- May I keep the laptop after the Library closes for use in the 24-hour room?
- No, it must be returned to the circulation desk before the Library closes.
- May I take the laptop to a class for a presentation?
- No, save your file to your network space.
- May I leave the laptop in my carrel while I go to the Union, class, etc.?
- Laptops found unattended by Library staff will be picked up and returned to the Circulation Desk.
