Assistive Technology for Students with Learning Disabilities
  • Kurzweil 3000 Workstation (Room G-25)
    This workstation has Kurzweil 3000, a program that converts documents to speech and text. This software application can help students improve their reading speed and comprehension.

    The workstation also has a scanner, ABBYY FineReader software, and headphones.

    Note: This workstation is reserved for students with learning disabilities.


Services and Assistive Technology for Students with Vision Impairment or other Physical Disabilities
  • Stacks Retrieval Requests
    Library staff will be happy to retrieve books and journals from the stacks for students with disabilities.


  • Kurzweil 1000 Workstation (Room G-19)
    This workstation has Kurzweil 1000 software, which uses Optical Character Recogniztion (OCR) and text-to-speech technology to convert printed text to speech. It also has the following hardware and software:

    • Dragon Naturally Speaking
      This voice-activated software converts speech into text and can be used with many Windows-based applications, including Microsoft Office applications. The software also allows users to bypass the keyboard and mouse to create and edit documents and control applications.
    • ABBYY FineReader
      FineReader is an Optical Character Recognition (OCR) application that converts scanned images to text documents.
    • Jaws (Job Access with Speech)
      Jaws is a popular screen reader.
    • ZoomText
      ZoomText is a screen magnifier and screen reader.
    • Large flat-screen monitor
    • Big Keys Keyboard
    • Kensington Expert Mouse Track Ball
    • Microphone and headphones
    • Scanner
    • Printer

    Note: This workstation is reserved for students who need this equipment.
