  • WorldCat
    Indexes books, periodicals, and other materials held by libraries around the world. Search WorldCat to identify additional books on your topic and then order the books on interlibrary loan.
    Note: It can be helpful to identify relevant Library of Congress Subject Headings in the Library Catalogue first; you can then do a subject search in WorldCat to find additional items with these subject headings.
    Search Syntax
    Truncation: use an asterisk *.

        (1851-2001) Provides the full text of the New York Times; page images can be viewed and downloaded as pdf files. For articles after 2001, search LexisNexis Academic.

      • LexisNexis Academic
        (Approx. 1980 to present) Includes the full text of articles from local, national, and international newspapers, magazines, and trade journals as well as the text of news wires, patents, legal documents, and transcripts of radio and television broadcasts.
        To find U.S. news: do a "Guided News Search." In the first drop down menu, "News Category," choose "U.S. News." In the second drop-down menu, "News Sources," select the appropriate region or state. Enter key words and then adjust the date range as appropriate.
        To find articles from magazines: do a "Guided News Search." In the first drop-down menu, choose "General News" as the news category; in the second drop-down menu, choose "Magazines and Journals." Enter your keywords and select an appropriate date range.

        (1980s to present) Indexes, abstracts, and provides selected full text from the following major national newspapers: The Christian Science Monitor (1988 to present), Los Angeles Times (1985 to present), New York Times (1999 to present), Wall Street Journal (1982 to present), and Washington Post (1987 to present).

      • Wall Street Journal Index
        (1981 to present) Provides indexing for the newspaper. Some full text is available beginning in 1984.

      • AccuNet/AP Multimedia Archive
        (1826 to present [images]; 1997 to present [text]) A collection of image, graphics, and text databases from the Associated Press (AP). Over 700,000 AP photographs dating from 1826 to the present are available in two collections: the International Archive (U.S. state, regional and national photographs; international photographs) and the Euro/Asian Archive. The Graphics Database contains diagrams, maps, and charts dating from 1999. The text database contains the full text of AP reports from 1997 to the present.
        Note: Photographs and graphics from the Archive cannot be sold, syndicated, loaned or used for advertising or for trade without the written consent of AP. In addition, users cannot republish any of the photographs on a Web page.
      • LexisNexis Academic
        (Approx. 1980 to present) As well as the full text of English-language and foreign-language newspapers, LexisNexis also contains transcripts of radio and television broadcasts, the full text of news wires, and the full text of documents and transcripts selected and translated by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).

      • World News Connection
        (1995 to present) Contains full-text, English-language summaries and translations of foreign news reports, conference proceedings, radio and television broadcasts, periodicals, non-classified technical reports, and other local media sources from around the world. Covers political, scientific, socioeconomic, technical, and environmental issues and events. These materials are provided by the Foreign Broadcast Information Service (FBIS) to the National Technical Information Service (NTIS).
        Note: The Library also has earlier years of the FBIS Reports:

    • CIAO: Columbia International Affairs Online
      (1991 to present) A collection of resources on international affairs. Includes citations to journal articles and books; also includes the full text of over 400 working papers from university research institutes, occasional papers series from NGOs, foundation-funded research projects, proceedings from conferences, policy briefs, and economic indicators. A small selection of journals and books are also available full text.

    • Contemporary Women's Issues
      (1992 to present) Indexes popular articles, scholarly articles, books, newsletters, and reports on all aspects of women's studies, including gender, sociology, education, political science, and health.

    • JSTOR
      Includes pdf copies of scholarly articles from a core collection of journals; also includes book reviews. Note: JSTOR does not contain articles from the most recent 3-5 years.

      (1937 to present) Indexes journal articles, books, government documents, and conference papers in political science, public affairs, and economics.
