        To find articles in popular magazines: Do a "Guided News Search," select "General News" as the news category, and then select "Magazines and Journals" as the news source. Finally, enter your search terms and select an appropriate date range.
        To find articles in trade journals: Choose the "Business" search form (upper left-hand corner of the main search screen) and then select "Industry & Market." Enter your keywords and choose an appropriate industry ("Arts & Entertainment," "Broadcasting & Publication News," and "Library/Information Services news" are particularly useful).

        (1851-2001) Provides the full text of the New York Times; page images can be viewed and downloaded as pdf files. For articles after 2001, search LexisNexis Academic.

      • LexisNexis Academic
        (Approx. 1980 to present) Includes the full text of articles from local, national, and international newspapers, magazines, and trade journals as well as the text of news wires, patents, legal documents, and transcripts of radio and television broadcasts.
        To find local and regional news: do a "Guided News Search." In the first drop down menu, "News Category," choose "U.S. News." In the second drop-down menu, "News Sources," select the appropriate region or state. Enter key words and then adjust the date range as appropriate.

        (1980s to present) Indexes, abstracts, and provides selected full text from the following major national newspapers: The Christian Science Monitor (1988 to present), Los Angeles Times (1985 to present), New York Times (1999 to present), Wall Street Journal (1982 to present), and Washington Post (1987 to present).

    • Other News Sources

      • AccuNet/AP Multimedia Archive
        (1826 to present [images]; 1997 to present [text]) A collection of image, graphics, and text databases from the Associated Press (AP). Over 700,000 AP photographs dating from 1826 to the present are available in two collections: the International Archive (U.S. state, regional and national photographs; international photographs) and the Euro/Asian Archive. The Graphics Database contains diagrams, maps, and charts dating from 1999. The text database contains the full text of AP reports from 1997 to the present.
        Note: Photographs and graphics from the Archive cannot be sold, syndicated, loaned or used for advertising or for trade without the written consent of AP. In addition, users cannot republish any of the photographs on a Web page.
      • LexisNexis Academic
        (Approx. 1980 to present) As well as the full text of English-language and foreign-language newspapers, LexisNexis also contains transcripts of radio and television broadcasts and the full text of news wires.

    Note: To locate appropriate Library of Congress Subject Headings, start with a keyword search and then browse records.
    Useful subject headings include:

    Indexes books, periodicals, and other materials held by libraries around the world. Search WorldCat to identify additional books on your topic and then order the books on interlibrary loan.
    Note: It can be helpful to identify relevant Library of Congress Subject Headings in the Library Catalogue first; you can then do a subject search in WorldCat to find additional items with these subject headings.
