17th & 18th Century Burney Collection Newspapers
Off-Campus access available through proxy server to current Davidson College students, faculty, and staff.
(c. 1603-1800) Contains digital facsimiles of approximately 1,270 seventeenth and eighteenth-century English newspapers from the British Library's Burney Collection; includes many London papers as well as some English provincial, Scottish, Irish, and colonial North American papers. The full text of these newspapers, including all articles, advertisements, and other contents, is keyword-searchable.
19th Century Masterfile - Poole's Plus
Off-Campus access available through proxy server to current Davidson College students, faculty, and staff.
Contains two sets of indexes. The periodical indexes include Poole's Index to Periodical Literature (1802-1907), Stead's Index to Periodicals (1890-1902), and Richardson's Index to Periodical Articles in Religion (1890-1899). The government documents indexes include the Subject Index to U.S. Patents (1790-1873), Descriptive Catalogue of Government Publications of the U.S. (1774-1881), and Hansard's Index to the Debates of the House of Commons and House of Lords (1803-1830). Provides the full text of nearly 2,000 French literary, philosophical, scientific and technical texts; most are from the eighteenth, nineteenth, and twentieth centuries, although there are some medieval, Renaissance, and seventeenth-century texts. Includes novels, verse, essays, correspondence, treatises, journalism, and theatrical texts; also includes Voltaire électronique, the full text of all of Voltaire's literary works, and a Provençal poetry database containing 38 texts in their original spellings. ARTFL is a cooperative project between the Institut National de la Langue Française of the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique and the University of Chicago.

(1974-1996) Contains the full text of the U.S. Government's FBIS Daily Reports, the English-language translations of foreign news broadcasts, including clandestine broadcasts from occupied territories, used by U.S. intelligence services, policy makers, and analysts. A valuable primary source collection for historical and political science research.

(1805-1920) Contains digital facsimiles of nineteenth and early twentieth-century Latin American newspapers; the full text of these newspapers, including all articles, advertisements, and other contents, is keyword-searchable. When complete, this database will contain over 35 newspapers.

An evolving digital library of resources related to ancient Greece. The Perseus Digital Library contains more content than the CD-ROM listed above. In addition to Greek texts, there are also works by Latin and Renaissance authors. The Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps provide valuable historical information about property sites and building materials and can also be used to chart urban growth. The Davidson College Library is a member of the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy International Association (SEPIA) and the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition (SPARC) and has helped to fund the encyclopedia.
Times Literary Supplement (TLS) Centenary Archive

(1902-1990) Contains the Times Literary Supplement Index as well as page images from the TLS (1920-1990). Includes more than 250,000 reviews, letters, poems, and articles. In addition, the Archive provides information about anonymous contributors to the TLS, information that does not appear in the print TLS Index.
TLG (Thesaurus Linguae Graecae) Online
Contains the full text of nearly all extant Greek texts from Homer (8th century B.C.E.) to 600 C.E. as well as many other Greek texts up to the fall of Byzantium in 1453 C.E. The online version contains over 10,000 works by over 3,500 authors.

(1595-1866) Contains the records of 27,233 trans-Atlantic slave ship voyages from the late sixteenth through the mid-nineteenth centuries. Information can be tracked by time period and geographic region. The CD-ROM also includes interactive maps and information about people on board, owners and captains, ships' characteristics, and the geographic trajectory of each voyage.

Provides the full text of all of Voltaire's literary works. Based on the Oxford edition of the Complete Works of Voltaire; for titles that have not yet been published in the Complete Works, texts are drawn from original sources or the Moland edition of Voltaire's works (1877-1885). The database will be updated as additional volumes of the Oxford edition are published. Part of ARTFL, a cooperative project between the Institut National de la Langue Française of the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique and the University of Chicago.
