Finding Books
Use library catalogs to find books, videos, government documents, journals, magazines, and newspapers. Davidson Library WorldCat contains information about materials owned by Davidson and libraries worldwide. You may also search in WorldCat Classic to find materials held in libraries around the world. If Davidson does not have a copy of what you need, use Interlibrary Loan to request it.
When searching for books and other materials in a catalog, try searching by keyword, author, or title. You may also search by Library of Congress subject headings. To locate appropriate subject headings, do a keyword search and then browse records. To search by subject heading, do an advanced search in Davidson Library WorldCat and choose "Subject" in the dropdown menu. Helpful subject headings include:
- Acting - History
- Drama - History and criticism
- Dramatic criticism - History
- Performing arts - History
- Performing arts - Philosophy
- Theater - History
- Theater - Historiography
- Theater - Production and direction
- Theater architecture
- Theater architecture - History
- Theaters - Stage-setting and scenery
To see electronic books held by Davidson, see ebrary, a collection of over 70,000 e-books published by academic, trade, and professional publishers. It covers all subject areas and includes tools that allow you to create your own virtual bookshelf, bookmark pages, and add and save notes and highlights.
