Pepper Visual Art Scholarship

The Pepper Visual Arts Scholarship is offered to students demonstrating outstanding talent and promise in the field of visual art.

The award, valued at $30,000 annually, was established by James G. Pepper '65, and his mother, Mrs. Nita Easly Pepper.

This award is renewable for each of the recipient's remaining three years at Davidson, providing GPA, progress toward degree, and art study (a minimum of four courses in studio or art history) requirements are met.

Recipients are not required to major in art.

Application Process

You must first be an applicant to Davidson College in order to submit your Pepper Visual Arts Application.

In addition to your completed application for admission and your scholarship application, you must submit a portfolio of your artwork.

Portfolio guidelines

You portfolio should consist of 12-15 images of your work. Each image must be uploaded as an individual media file as described in our scholarship application.

Submitted portfolios will be reviewed and rated by our studio art professors. We cannot accept actual artwork, but if you plan to visit Davidson before applying, you may contact the Art Department about bringing a portfolio of original work to show to one of our studio professors.

This application and the required additional materials should reach our Admission and Financial Aid Office no later than the application deadline for your chosen admission plan (Early Decision I - Nov. 15; Early Decision II - Jan. 2; or Regular Decision - Jan. 5).

If your art portfolio was already submitted as an Art Supplement to your general application for admission to Davidson, simply fill out the scholarship application to indicate your interest in being considered for this scholarship and alert us that you have already submitted a portfolio—do not submit a second portfolio.
