The Hansford M. Epes Distinguished Lecture Series presents: "Reading with Hiccups: The Humanities, Climate Change and You" with Simon Richter from the University of Pennsylvania
Simon Richter is professor of German literature and cinema at the University of Pennsylvania and past president of the Goethe Society of North America. For much of his academic career Richter focused on gender and the history of the body and published books such as Laocoon’s Body and the Aesthetics of Pain, Missing the Breast: Fantasy, Gender and the Body in the German Enlightenment and Women, Pleasure, Film: What Lolas Want. More recently, Richter’s thinking has taken an environmental turn with a particular concentration on cultural questions related to global warming, sea level rise and extreme flooding events.
