Freedom School Finale

Every summer, Davidson College hosts a Children’s Defense Fund Freedom Schools site. Freedom Schools is a national reading, social action, and cultural enrichment program. Our site serves 50 local K-eighth grade students. In addition to providing excellent reading and civic engagement enrichment in the mornings, the program provides unique and interactive afternoon activities.

Afternoon Activity Coordinators provide a fun, themed learning opportunity to 10-15 children for 4-5 weeks. During the last week of the program, each Afternoon Activity showcases their theme in a creative 5-minute presentation for the parents, families, and children (called “scholars”) in our program during our Finale show. The Finale is a showcase of learning that celebrates the achievements of our scholars.
