This group investigation course focuses on the question, "Why do species go extinct?" Students conduct literature reviews of recent and prehistoric extinction events to understand the extinction process and compile extinction data and develop new analytical tools to characterize the recent dramatic increase in extinction rates. Issues such as extinction bias, random extinction, and the prediction of future extinctions are addressed in a group project.
Successful completion of BIO 112/114 and BIO 227 or 321 is required. Completion of BIO 240 is recommended.
