Avinger Scholars Program

Established in honor of Dr. Robert L. Avinger, Jr., a member of the Davidson Class of 1960 and professor of economics from 1967-1980, this award will annually identify and recognize one outstanding student who:

  • shows the vision, qualities and passions of a true entrepreneur
  • demonstrates an entrepreneurial spirit, giving evidence of creativity and energy that will lead to future success in either business or civic engagement

The 2016 Avinger Scholar is guaranteed a position in the summer 2016 Venture Lab, a start-up incubator designed to accelerate the development of aspiring entrepreneurs through experiential education. It's a full-time, immersive, 10-week program suited for all business models (both for-profit and nonprofit). Scholars will also receive a seed fund of $6,500 to launch their project.
