March Mathness Ranking
by Tim Chartier and Steph Meador

Reduce some of the madness of the March bracketology with math. Below is an applet that allows you to rank
NCAA Division I men's basketball. When you are ranking, you can create a bracket by choosing the higher ranked
team to win.
You have two options in the applet.
- Select that every game counts as 1 game and rank with the BCS ranking method, called the Colley method.
- Select to break the season into intervals. A new window will pop up on your screen with a default of 1 interval.
Go the entry box in the lower right of the applet and enter the number of intervals you would like. Say we try 4. Type
4 and hit enter. In the window for interval values, enter your weight for each interval and after entering all
the interval weights, select "Set Intervals."
Finally, click "Create Ranking" and you have your own personal ranking for March Madness.
Now, it is your turn! Give it a try below.
