The Department of Mathematics at Davidson College offers a strong curriculum
in mathematics in a friendly and supportive environment, serving students at
several levels: students satisfying requirements of the Core Curriculum,
students taking mathematics in support of their major in economics or one of the
sciences, and students seeking a solid undergraduate curriculum in mathematics
in preparation for employment or graduate school. The Department, in conjunction
with the Department of Physics, also offers courses leading toward a
concentration in computer science at the level of a traditional minor.
Some graduates pursue graduate study in law, medicine, business, economics, and,
of course, mathematics, while others take positions working in fields from
secondary education to technology firms, from insurance companies to capital
markets.
The first four pages are for prospective and new students thinking of satisfying
Davidson's mathematics requirement. The What-Who-Why-When-Where pages,
written with the assistance of mathematics major Andy Schultz '02, are for those
seeking to understand more broadly how Davidson might fit their plans and
expectations for exploring and pursuing mathematics after high school.
