Alumnus Ralph Blakely '67 read from his recently-published translation of The Iliad on campus in January. Blakely studied Greek at Davidson, then spent his career as an organist-choirmaster and private investor. His new Iliad is a labor of his retirement years. Blakely's visit was sponsored by Global Literature and the Classics Department.
Professor of Classics Keyne Cheshire, who wrote the preface to Blakely's book, also is working on a translation of The Iliad. He has already begun reimagining The Iliad for a modern audience. View a video of Cheshire describing the project, and get a taste of the translation.
