Tessa Jones ‘18 wins Award for Outstanding Tech Support

Tessa Jones in front of the Main Street ITS buildingRising junior Tessa Jones is the recipient of the 2016 Senti-Merriman Award from ResNet, an organization dedicated to the advancement and research of student technologies and services and their use in higher education in North America. The award recognizes the work of a student who has provided outstanding technology support for members of her or his campus community.

Tessa hails from Asheville, N.C. and has worked for Information Technology Services (ITS) at Davidson since the beginning of her first year. She began her work with ITS by monitoring and maintaining computers and printers in the computing labs, but it soon became evident that her experience investigating and solving issues with personal computers made her an ideal fit for the ITS Student Technology staff which provides help desk services.

As a student tech, Tessa helps other Davidson students troubleshoot any issues they may have with the network, passwords, viruses and malware, hard drives, software and more. Rachel Stewart, Davidson's student technology coordinator and Tessa's supervisor, commented, "Tessa is one of the most logical and analytical student techs I've worked with. She really knows her way around a computer, and she's able to navigate sticky problems while keeping the client calm and assured. When I heard there was an award for students working in technology support, she was an obvious candidate to nominate."

As a Senti-Merriman Award winner, Tessa will attend the 2016 ResNet Student Technology Conference in Las Vegas June 14-16 where she will receive recognition during the opening ceremony. The Senti-Merriman Award is named after ResNet founding members, Sandy Senti and Jeff Merriman and was created to honor the contributions of student staff in university technology departments.
