Charlotte Observer: Enabling Talent to Thrive

Students show off submersible robot by poolOn Thursday, Jan. 22, Davidson College, Golden Doors Scholars, and The Duke Endowment will host a screening of the documentary Underwater Dreams. From acclaimed director Mary Mazzio, Underwater Dreams follows the sons of Mexican immigrants as they learn to build a submersible robot from Home Depot parts and subsequently defeat engineering powerhouse MIT at a robotics competition.

In an opinion piece published in the Charlotte Observer, President Carol Quillen and Red Ventures CEO and Golden Door Scholars founder Ric Elias discuss why institutions such as Davidson and Golden Door have partnered to create a pipeline to educate and graduate undocumented students. Mazzio, Quillen, and Elias will participate in a panel discussion following the film screening.
