Sam Echikson's '14 father, William Echikson, reflects on the significance of national identity in their family as Sam embarks on his professional golf career. Sam Echikson holds citizenship in three countries–Belgium, Finland and the United States. Raised in Belgium by an American father and Finnish mother, he grew up learning three languages and playing golf on a Belgian youth team that traveled to places such as Iceland and Turkey.

As a member of the Davidson golf team, Echikson won the Davidson Invitational, earned nine top-10 results, was named to the Southern Conference All-Conference team, and served as co-captain his senior year. This year Echikson has played golf in Egypt, Morocco, Spain and Kenya, and he is currently participating in his first European Challenge Tour event.
