The beige walls that once greeted patients at the Carolina Healthcare System Behavioral Health Hospital have been replaced with a colorful mural painted by Stewy Robertson '15. Having graduated in May, this was Robertson's first commissioned mural as a working artist.
The hospital wanted to create a more welcoming entrance reflective of their healing, restorative, nurturing and calming treatment environment, and reached out to the college in search of a student artist to liven up the space. Robertson was excited about the opportunity to paint another mural and dove into working with hospital staff to come up with the best design.
The result is a mural inspired by the wooded landscape that Robertson noticed surrounding the hospital. In creating the landscape mural, he intends to open up the space by uniting the building and its outdoor environment.
