Artist Park McArthur '06 is exhibiting her work at the Chisenhale Gallery in east London – her first British show. McArthur's sculptures question how a person or a person's body can be formed or deformed through political and social forces. This show includes acoustic forms that absorb sound, polymer-based papers that absorb liquid and latex objects that trap fluid.
McArthur, a studio art major at Davidson, trained as a painter before turning to sculpture. The Guardian article explains the way her art wrestles with how sculpture exploded from its old dependable forms and became just about anything. Some of her pieces are commercially available readymades, while others are tediously hand-crafted.
