Finding that ‘Ah-ha’ moment: Through opera students learn more than singing

Under the direction of Jacquelyn Culpepper, every other year Davidson produces an opera in which students from all backgrounds and majors are invited to participate. This is a rare opportunity, as often in larger schools such high-level artistic exposure and training is reserved solely for music majors.

Students who participate in Davidson's opera workshops learn much more than how to sing and perform an opera – which in itself is no small feat – they learn what is possible when a group of committed artists and learners challenge themselves and work together to create a product of which they can be proud. And the implications for that life lesson extend far beyond the auditorium.
