Foundation for the Carolinas is a nonprofit community foundation serving donors and a broad range of charitable purposes in North and South Carolina. With assets of more than $900 million, the foundation encourages and makes possible philanthropic giving by individuals of all means to benefit their communities. Basic job functions expected

The intern assists the SVP-Community Programs and Civic Leadership, conducts research, and implements the initiatives of the Robinson Center for Civic Leadership. S/he will assist with strategy development, researching community and/or foundation-related opportunities, developing briefing papers and assisting with community convenings.

Typical projects for the fellow

  • Conducting research, analyzing and making recommendations regarding new and/or existing civic leadership initiatives.
  • Assisting with planning, resourcing and implementation of civic leadership initiatives.
  • Designing protocols for Foundation-initiated projects.

Helpful academic or professional backgrounds

Political science, public policy, economics.

Other requirements

The candidate must enjoy working in an environment that rapidly changes, is fast paced, and requires the ability to work independently. Finally, the candidate should feel comfortable working in an environment that is unique and creative, but also has a culture of formality and professionalism, e.g. business attire is required.

Please note: This position has one difference from the other positions in this program. Due to policies set forth by the Foundation for the Carolinas, the fellow hired will be officially in a contract position for the one-year period and will not have health benefits.
