AP Exams

Advanced Placement (Class of 2018)

A maximum of four course credits may be achieved through AP, IB, and joint enrollment courses combined (including courses taken in the summer after high school graduation). No more than 2 of the 4 credits may come from joint enrollment courses. If you qualify for more than four such credits, you can change which courses you select later in your career at Davidson. AP credit is awarded for scores of 4 or 5 unless noted below.

Beginning with any student entering Davidson in Fall 2013 (Class of '17) and later, no more than two credits attained prior to matriculation at Davidson (or, for transfer students, as a degree candidate at another college) may be applied to the satisfaction of the eight distribution requirements needed for graduation. If you choose to have the AP course count for a distribution requirement, then the course will appear on your Davidson transcript as the course in the Distribution Course # column. If you choose to have the AP course count as one of your four credits but not for distribution credit, then the course will appear on your Davidson transcript as the course in the Non-Distribution Course # column. Either way, your AP scores can assist you in placing into higher-level Davidson College courses.

AP Notes

Calculus: Credit for MAT 111 will be forfeit if the student takes MAT 112.

Economics: ECO 199C credit is forfeited if student takes ECO 101 at Davidson. A total of 7 on both tests, with neither score below 3, yields credit for ECO 101.

Latin: May convert to LAT 201 on basis of the departmental placement test during the summer.

Physics: Credit for 118 is forfeited by a student who elects to take PHY 120 or 130; credit for 119 is forfeited by a student who elects to take PHY 220 or 230. PHY 118 and 119 satisfy a liberal studies distribution requirement—not natural science—unless evidence of significant lab work for either course is presented to the Physics Department chair, in which case the course will satisfy the natural science requirement.
