Mt. Olivet Church
Mt. Olivet Church Dutch Fork South Carolina
In 1882 a Sunday School was organized in the O'Neall Academy which was in effect the origin of Mt. Olivet Church. For several years the Sunday School was the nucleus around which the group gathered. By the year 1885 interest deepened which resulted in worship and preaching services in addition to the Sunday School.

Interest remained high and prospects were favorable for the organization of a congregation. This was effected under the leadership of Pastor Charles Alexander Marks in the year 1888 with 17 charter members. Membership grew to over 200 until 1929 the construction of Lake Murray backed water over portions of land in the area which necessitated relocation by many families connected with Mt. Olivet Church.
