St. Johns
St. Johns Church Dutch Fork South Carolina
Pastor John Gasser, a native of Switzerland and a Reformed minister, began work here in 1754 in log-cabin church. St. Johns Church has not always been Lutheran, and it was called the German Calvinistic Church of St. Johns in the Fork. When the congregation became Lutheran it was described as the Protestant Lutheran St. Johns Church.

In 1809 the White Church was constructed and this building still stands today as the oldest frame Lutheran church building in South Carolina. The architecture shows the Reformed influence. The altar is surrounded by a circular rail and the pulpit is behind this with a sound board over it.

About the year 1835 pastors of the Tennessee Synod and the South Carolina Synod preached here for many years on alternate Sundays. The early history tells us that St. John has stood on a grant of land given by King George III of England to them in 1724.
