In 1809 the "White Church" was constructed under the guidance of the Rev. Frederick Joseph Wallern. This building stands today as the oldest frame Lutheran church building in South Carolina. In this building the slaves worshipped in the balcony situated in the rear of the church nave.
Before the "White Church" the congregation worshipped in a building made of logs hewn six by ten inches, the corners dovetailed in the old German style. It occupied land which is today part of the church cemetery.
